Daniel, Kaitlyn, and I walked into the Marriott in Guatemala City and the gentleman hands me a note that said, "Congratulations YOU ARE PINK, enjoy your daughter, love Missy".

Our two week stay in Guatemala was some of the most memorable experiences of our lives. We spent our time touring every inch of Guatemala City and Antigua we could. We visited chapels during Holy Week, watched parades, and saw a reenactment of Christ's crucifixtion. We spent precious time with Chloe's Mammy, Poppy, and Nancy and made a vow to bring Chloe back when she was old enough to understand and appreciate her birth country.

I thank God for allowing me to be Chloe's mommy, for giving me the awesome responsibility of raising her and teaching her about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She truly is a "Gift from God".

Three years ago today on the other side of the world our son precious son was born. Zane has been home for 15 months now and its as if he has always been here. Isn't it amazing how God does that? He is the most affectionate little boy I have ever met, so loveable and sweet, but still just wild enough to keep things interesting in the Blackwell house (just Sat. he tore up his dvd player by putting a acorn and penny inside it). Daniel says, "Zane keeps us young"!
Once again I am so grateful to all those that made it possible for Zane to be our son, Peggy & Jen. I am grateful to Thuoc who did so much more than his job, but went out of his way to make us feel welcomed. He took such good care of us in VietNam and he loved all our babies with all his heart. I am also so grateful to Trang in VietNam that would hold our sweet sweet baby and tell him stories in English about his Mommy & Daddy coming to get him. I am grateful to the nurses in the Baby Home for taking care of him and making our 2 week visit with them so enjoyable. They truly made us a part of their family. I am grateful to our birthmother that made what had to be the most difficult decision of her life to leave her son in the care of that baby home so that he could one day find his "forever family". I am so grateful to Kyleigh, Brent, Kaitlyn, and Chloe for embracing their baby brother with all the love that they have. And just like Chloe, I am so grateful to my heavenly Father for giving us another one of "His children".

Fourteen years ago today, 10:39 am to be exact Kaitlyn Hope Blackwell came into the world after thirty-seven hours of natural childbirth.
I remember looking into those beautiful blue eyes of hers and my the healing of my heart began...........
After trying for over 7 years to conceive and enduring the loss of our daughter at 28 1/2 weeks, God had answered our prayers by giving us another one of His blessings. Poor baby girl's labor was so hard that I broke her collar bone delivering her but other than that she was a healthy 7 lb. 7 oz. angel.
To think that fourteen years can go by so quickly is almost unbelieveable to me, but its true, she is now a fourteen year old young lady and my only prayer for her is to always put God first in life in every single thing she does..............
I LOVE YOU KAITLYN! HAPPY 14th BIRTHDAY!!!

My beautiful "Gift from God" turned 5 yesterday on Valentine's Day. I can't hardly believe that she has been home almost 4 years now. Sometimes I wish I could turn back the time and she would be a toddler again.
Her birthday was very special, not only was it Valentine's Day but her daddy also became her Pastor yesterday. Daniel was voted in as our full time Pastor at Glendale Baptist Church. Her Sunday School teachers had her a little party with cake squares and gifts and then we went out to eat with some of our family where she also had a birthday cake. Presents opened later at home and then after church last night we went out with a bunch of our church family to her favorite Mexican Restuarant and she got her birthday dessert and a special "Happy Birthday" song by the waitstaff. In the pictures she is wearing the beautiful poppydip dress that my friend April sent her from GA. Birthday celebrations continue today with Brent taking her on a lunch date and tonight we are taking all 3 of them to Kanpai of Tokyo for a birthday dinner. Kaitlyn will be 14 on Wed., Zane will be 3 on Monday, needless to say 3 birthdays in the same week is not good for my diet at all. If I am not careful I am going to be gained my 35 lbs back just this week eating cake squares and birthday cake! Oh well at least we are getting them all over with at once, right.
When I put Chloe to bed last night I teared up remembering the exact moment she came into our lives. It was Feb. 18th and I was so very sad because we had lost our 1st referral just a few weeks before, Missy called and said, "I am sending you some pictures of a beautiful baby girl that was born on Valentines Day", look at them and call me back. I called Daniel and told him to get to school ASAP, and I will never forget opening that email to all those pictures. She was the fattest most beautiful baby in the world. And she was ours, how did I know?
She was wrapped in the blanket that we had did her nursery in. Not just butterflies but the exact blanket that was in her nursery. What are the chances of that in Guatemala? I took out all those pictues again yesterday and cried seeing those of her birthmother holding her and I was so very thankful. Thankful to Peggy, Missy, and Jen for uniting our family, Mammy, Poppy, and Nancy for raising her as their very own for the first 14 mos. of her life, forever thankful to our birthmother Alysia for changing our lives forever. Because of her sacrificial love I am the mommy that gets to tuck her in at night. Most importantly, I thank my Heavenly Father for His many blessing one of which is "CHLOE".

Tonight was spent celebrating Christmas Eve with just our children and Meghan. We went to Matt & Kyleigh's and enjoyed delicious food, great fellowship and a whole lot of fun. I am not sure if Zane really understands the concept of Santa Claus is suppose to be coming tonight, but I know for sure he knew what having a party at Kyleigh's house meant. Everytime he opened a gift tonight he wanted to know where Chloe's was. He is always looking out for big sister Chloe. All of the children were happy with their gifts, Kyleigh & Matt, got cash,Kyleigh got a vera teacher's bag, Brent got lots of stuff for his new house, Kaitlyn got a pair converse allstars, mocassins with peace sign on them, Mentalist 1st season, all 8 seasons of gilmore girls, and a rackroom shoes gift card. Meghan got a vera bag, cranium game, jewelry, both her & Brent & Matt & Kyleigh got new coffee makers, Chloe got a make up barbie, monopoly game, pj's, etc. and Zane got "Cars" stuff. It was a wonderful night and now I must go help Santa Claus put together a train table!!!!!!!

Sometimes I am amazed at how God weaves families together perfectly through His miracle called adoption....
We met the Sweeney's a couple of years ago when they signed with our agency waiting for a referral from Vietnam. God had other plans for them though and they brought another beautiful little girl home from Guatemala. He brought April & I together and we were able to support each other during our sometimes difficult journey waiting for our youngest to come home. I will be eternally grateful to Him for bringing us together. After talking to each other on the phone several times a day since then we finally were able to meet each other in person on December 4th. We met them in Helen, GA and our children fell in love with each other just like we knew they would. April's youngest Marissa got quite attached to Kaitlyn and Maribel and Chloe stuck together like glue. Zane enjoyed playing with what he called "His Darlings". It was a great trip and we are already planning our next visit.
God is so Good!

I still can't hardly believe that Zane has been home one year today. It seems like yesterday we made that 36 hour flight home with our very sick little boy. He had double ear infections, a sinus infection, and asthmatic bronchitis and he never even cried. We left SC and it was in the 70's, arrived and it was 22 degrees. Arriving home the first thing Zane did was go to Brent just like Chloe had done the day she arrived home. I remember standing there totally and completely exhausted but so happy that I was brought to tears seeing my oldest son holding his baby brother, my youngest son! I thank the Lord every single day for bringing Zane home to us!

We celebrated Zane's One Year Anniversary of being legally our son today with our family. Just as we have always done with Chloe we let Zane pick what restuarant he wanted to eat at and he chose Thai Taste. My niece Dana Blair made his a Thomas the Engine cake that was absolutely delicous.

One year ago today we had our Giving & Receiving Ceremony in the province that our precious son was born in. We had spent the last 13 days in the province and even though we were so very happy that Zane was now legally our son, we were also sad to be leaving Thuoc, Trang, and all the nannies behind.
I remember leaving the province making our way back to HCMC completely overwhelmed. I couldn't hardly believe that our 1 1/2 year journey to our son was almost over.

I held my precious son for the very first time.
Zane was so sick, so tiny, and oh so beautiful.
He was also grieving. Even though he didn't quite understand I think he knew in his heart that these strangers were going to be taking him from the only home he had ever known. The only caretakers he had ever had.
That with the combination of him being so sick he was one sad baby boy that very first day. But by the second day he had warmed up to his Mommy and thought Chloe was something special. It's funny if you think about it today, he screamed everytime he looked at his daddy those first few days.
Now one year later, he has went from 11.8 pounds to 26 pounds, and he thinks his daddy is the greatest. He is still a Mommy's boy and Chloe is his bestfriend in the whole world.
The transformation of Zane this past year has been nothing short of a miracle. He is the happiest little boy and he just loves people!
At the grocery store, walmart, etc. he is always telling complete strangers he loves them. Too Cute!
I thank the Lord every single day for another one of His precious Gifts!!!!!!!!!!!

Chloe & Zane had a wonderful time last night. It was Zane's 1st Halloween and we started out by letting them Trick or Treat at Papa & MawMaw's house and then onto Kyleigh & Matt's where they went Trick or Treating at some of the houses in Kyleigh's neighborhood and then we stayed for Kyleigh & Matt's Halloween Party.
Lots of good food & fellowship!
Chloe's favorite part was Kyleigh letting her hand out the candy to all the trick or treaters that came to the door!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Poor Baby Boy........................

Sure isn't smiling now!
Last Thursday 10/22 he had outpatient surgery. He was circumcised (he'll kill me when he reads this when he's older). But he could sure use your prayers. The recovery has been exactly like the urologist had warned us about, absolutely horrible! But because of some problems, he had to have it done and we felt that we had no other choice. It has just been really hard on him with him being 2 1/2 years old. He doesn't understand but yet he is still big enough to want to be on the go which is very painful. My biggest fear was of them putting him to sleep and I had prayed for days about that before Thursday actually arrived. They gave him a "I don't care" drug before they came and got him to put him to sleep and do the IV and that help alot because I knew he would never willingly go to them. They had him so drunk he reached right for the nurse.
Waking up from Recovery was a whole different story though. A nurse came to get me the minute they started rolling him out of OR because he was screaming for his MOMMY. Daniel wanted to go back but they wouldn't let him until they had him in Recovery, and calmed down. That broke Daddy's heart. Once they put him in my arms he started calming down though and once the thumb went into his mouth he was okay.
I knew once he started sucking his beloved thumb everything was going to be fine.
He goes back to the Dr. tomorrow and I am hoping he gets a good report. Please keep him in your prayers!
On to brighter things.............
It was one year ago today we boarded a flight in Charlotte, NC headed to Vietnam. We had layovers in San Francisco and Hong Kong before we reached our destination of Ho Chi Minh City two days later. We arrived on October 30th, and traveled two days later to Hau Giang to meet our precious son. Boy it has been a fast year and I am so happy that God has given us this little boy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sunday Chloe sang at church before the Worship Service with some of the kids in her Wednesday night Team Kids class. After a quick lunch we headed to the pumpkin patch and Zane loved it.
The weather was perfect and he loved running around with Chloe checking everything out. The Hay Ride was a big hit with him too!

First Week Of Home Pre School & A Fall Scavanger Hunt!

It was the end of October last year that we took Chloe out of preschool/daycare for her to go to Vietnam for 3 weeks with us to bring home her baby brother. It is so hard to believe that Zane will be home a year next month. After much prayer and many talks between Daniel and I we decided that it would be best for Zane for me to stay home with them. This was new terriotory for me because I had been working since I was 15 years old and even though I took maternity leaves with my children, staying home with Chloe the first four months she was home was the longest I had ever been able to stay with them. We just knew in our hearts that Zane was not ready after only 6 weeks of being home for a daycare setting. Chloe did fine but she was in a very loving foster home where she was doted on. Even though the nannies loved Zane very much the baby home was still a small orphanage and he just wasn't ready for anything that reminded him of that same enviroment. He was also so small at only weighing a little of 12 pounds. Happy to say 11 months later he is a whopping 25 pounds. The cost of daycare for both of them was going to be my entire check too so that made my decision to stay home that much easier.
I have absolutely loved every single day of being home with my children. I appreciate God giving me this opportunity so much that I am thanking Him every day for allowing me to do this and for PROVIDING FOR US without an income from me.
As great as being home is, I have noticed the last couple of weeks Chloe mentioning she misses her friends at school. Most all of her friends at church are going to either 4k or 5k and she misses that.
So Daniel and I talked and we came up with an alternative for Chloe. I am going to do 2 hours a day 4 days a week of pre school here at home for her. We started on Monday and she absolutely loves it and Zane is having a ball too. Our 2 hours are spent with her working in a workbook, a writing lesson, story time, puzzles, coloring pages and bible story lesson. We are also doing a unit on Fall for the month of October. Yesterday we made a delicious apple pecan cobbler and today they went on a Fall Scavanger Hunt outside and collected all the things they thought pertained to it being Fall.
Chloe is happy, Zane is having a great time and Mommy is BLESSED!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have been on vacation in Hilton Head since Thursday and enjoying our time together very much. Yesterday we toured Savannah GA and really loved it. In all the times we have been to HH we had never traveled to Savannah. I did take some pictures there (a few) and will post them later. We just took our time and didn't get in any hurry and the kids loved walking the cobble streets (Chloe said they looked like Antigua). I thought that very strange since she came home at 14 mos. old.
We ate New York style pizza at Vince's Van Go Go, spent way too much money at the Candy Kitchen and then just sat awhile on River Street watching the River Boats go by. Chloe's plan for today is to go ride her beloved pony, "Cookie".
Zane still says, "NOPE" everytime we ask him is he going to ride a pony on this trip.
We miss John, April, Maribel and Marissa not being here and hope to meet up with them sometime this fall.

Mission Trip July 20 - 24, 2009

Two weeks ago Daniel and I loaded up 2 vans full of middle and high schoolers and headed to Myrtle Beach for a mission trip. Because some of them had never been on a mission trip before Daniel decided to stay in state thinking it was a good way to get his students feet wet in the mission field.
I have been on alot of mission trips during Daniel's ministry and I must say I have never been so proud of any group of young people as I was these. We were to work in 2 assisted living facilities, a girl's home, a boy's home and have one day of beach ministry. I was a bit apprehensive because this is the youngest group we have ever taken on a mission trip before and this would definitely get them out of their comfort zone.
Get them out of their comfort zone it most certainly did and they loved every minute of it, our kids did skits, sang, played their musical instruments and played bingo with the elderly. They also witnessed to them about Christ, even to a known athiest in one of the facilities. It didn't scare them one bit. Daniel preached and let me tell you the little ladies sure did love the "bald preacher".
We were not allowed to take pictures in the girl's home because it was state run but those beautiful girls of all ages enjoyed our time with them and so did the guys in the boy's home. Not only were we allowed to take pictures there but the boys couldn't wait to pose for us. We ended our last full day at the water park and our group of kids sure did deserve some free time.
The maturity they demonstrated the entire week was way beyond their years, they did everything we ask of them and they loved sharing the gospel.
We had a great week and I am so very proud of every one of them.

We actually celebrated 4th of July a few day lates because we were coming back from Hilton Head on the 4th, one of my sisters was out of town and the other one was working. We all had a great time eating way too much food. Poor Brent is a chef and never gets to take time off because even on his days off he ends up doing the cooking, he ended up cooking 30 steaks that night. The food was delicious and the kids had a great time playing at Papa & Maw Maw's even the big kids.
